Fresh warnings ssued for Ballarat region as rain refuses to let up

Flood warnings have been escalated in areas around the Ballarat region.

Beaufort and Lexton are on a "Watch and Act" with residents advised to stay indoors.

Update: the immediate threat of flash flooding in Lexton has passed as at 11.04am.

Impacted roads include Lexton-Ararat Road and the Lexton-Talbot Road for the Lexton area, and High Street, Western Highway at Neill Street and Leichardt Street for Beaufort.

The Mt Emu Creek at Skipton was predicted to reach the minor flood level (4.00 m) this morning, with further rises possible with forecast rainfall. The area is on a Stay Informed flood watch.

The Central and North Central region remain on stay informed orders (yellow area).

Meanwhile Ballan is in the "Watch and Act" zone with residents urged to prepare now.

The Werribee River at Ballan is expected to peak near the MODERATE flood level this morning, after reaching MINOR flood level earlier following nearly 40 millimetres of rain over the area in the last 24 hours.

Conditions are not set to ease too much this week with small amounts of rainfall forecast for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The only dry day for Ballarat is Friday, which will be mostly sunny, before up to 10 mils of rain is forecast again for Saturday.
